Buddha eyes

On virtually every stupa (Buddhist shrine) in Nepal, there are giant pairs of eyes staring out in four cardinal directions. These are Buddha Eyes, or Wisdom Eyes, and they symbolise the omniscience of Buddha. The Buddha eyes are so prevalent throughout the country that they have become a symbol of Nepal itself.

Between each pair of eyes, where the nose would be, is the Nepali character for the number one, which symbolises unity and the way to reach enlightenment through the Buddha's teachings. Above this is the third eye, symbolising the all-seeing wisdom of the Buddha.
