Astam Computer Centre officially opened (10 November 2011)
Mark Pinoli and Peter Bach are please to report that the Computer Centre in Astam was officially declared open on the 10th November 2011.
The Centre was opened by Arjun Thapa, Development Officer for the District Development Committee and Mark Pinoli, Logged On Foundation President.
The Astam Computer Centre was Logged On's first project which began in September 2011. Within three months of commencement, a new building had been built at the local Shree Bhumeshwor school with eleven computers connected to the internet. The vision: to radically improve the state of education in the area and to connect the community to a world of ideas, services and opportunities.
"We have already talked to a few people about our next project, possible two of them, for 2012. The project in Astam is just the start" Mark says.
Logged On's project team arrive in Astam, Nepal (15 September 2011)
A warm welcome was extended to Mark Pinoli and Peter Bach from the Logged On Foundation team by Shree Bhumeshwor School teachers, children and parents on their arrival into Astam on 9th September 2011. The welcome ceremony heralded the start of Logged On's three month effort to establish a computer centre in the village for the benefit of the community and to improve the education outcomes of the local children.
"We aim to see through the completion of the Computer Centre building and then install computers and the internet before we go" says Mark.
"We have stumbled on the first set of problems on day one" Mark reports. "Lightning struck a transformer that cut power to the village for over two months and the local authorities don't have the funds to repair the damaged equipment. The builder has also shot through so the community is looking for another one. We will keep you posted!"
The team are scheduled to leave Astam by mid-November and anticipate the completion of the Centre buidling and installation of equipment within a few months so they can begin delivering education programs to school children and the community.

World Telecommunication & Information Society Day, 17 May 2011 (18 May 2011)
Information Communications Technologies (ICTs) "have become the great enablers of modern society, helping people communicate across distances and cultural divides, facilitating trade and commerce, and providing access to critical resources such as health care and education. Recent events around the world have also highlighted the catalytic role that mobile phones and social media can play in galvanizing public opinion against repression" says UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Scholarship Fund Established (16 May 2011)
Thanks to Mr Michael Broomfield, Manager of the Western Australia Office of the Australian Scholarships Group (ASG WA), we have formally establish a Scholarship Fund. The Fund will open the door for students who cannot otherwise afford school expenses, vocational training courses, University tuition and living expenses, to be able to pursue their dream of a quality education without obstacle.
The establishment of a Scholarship Fund will allow us to fulfil one of our missions: to identify outstanding students and foster their education in the areas education, computing and information sciences by providing student scholarships.
The skills and talents of younger children need to be nurtured so they have the freedom to choose their career path later on in life. The Fund will also be used to help younger children to achieve positive educational outcomes.
Annually, ASG WA's pledge of $1 for every enrolment received will be able to sustain at least several major scholarships per year and a significant number of smaller stipends for students in Nepal, the country where we will be starting our work.
Michael is extending the charitable work started within his own family. In 2000, he visited the village of Astam in Nepal and developed a relationship with the community. It was Michael who introduced his Father, Barry Broomfield to the village. As a result of his visit to the village in 2004, Barry established a sister school relationship between Gingin District High School in Western Australia and the Bhumeshwor Middle School where assistance from Australia has allowed the Nepalese children in Astam greater access to a quality education (read more).
Astam is where the Foundation will begin its first project and will add another layer of assistance towards child education and community empowerment. The establishment of a scholarship program will add more depths to the possibilities afforded to the children.
If you would like to sponsor a child's education, or contribute to the fund, please donate online or contact the Foundation.
Endorsement as a Charitable Institution (2 May 2011)
The Foundation has been endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office as a Charitable Institution. This is an important milestone for our organisation because the money we receive through gifts and fundraising efforts will not be subject to tax. The benefits are obvious: more money will be available for the communities we serve. We are committed to our cause and are pleased that we have met the strict Government requirements for Charitable Institution endorsement.
Website Launched (18 April 2011)
The Foundation Website is launched: www.loggedon.org.au and www.loggedon.org.
Logged On Foundation
